FAQs

What Wax Do You Use for Your Candles and Wax Melts?

For our wax melts, we use natural wax and for our candles we use mineral and natural wax blend. Both waxes are biodegradable meaning it's kinder to the environment.

Where Do You Source Your Products?

All our products are sourced within the UK.

How can I maximise the burn time of my candle?

  • Trim the wick to no more than 5mm
  • Let the candle burn for approx 2-3 hours the first time you light it.
  • Once your candle has reached its full burning pool, it is recommended burning your candle for no longer than 4 hours.
  • Remember to trim the wick between burns to get the most out of your candle.

How can sooting and flickering be avoided?

Sooting candles:

The wick is too long. Trim the wick in small increments until it no longer produces soot.

Flickering candles:

Usually draught is the cause. However, the candle could also have a lack of oxygen (e.g. when candles have a high edge and the flame is sunken). The edge should be trimmed.

Candle Care

Your Vale Scents candle needs to be cared for similarly to how you would care for a plant. By following these simple steps you can ensure your candle will give you a safe, clean and long lasting burn!

  • Before burning your candle on its first burn, ensure that the wick is trimmed to 6mm to avoid smoking.
  • During it’s first burn , burn your candle for at least 2 hours to allow the top layer to melt as evenly as possible and avoid tunnelling.
  • Once cooled and the wax has solidified, trim the wick to 6mm-9mm between each burn.
  • If the wick develops a ‘mushroom’ which is a small buildup at the top of the wick, it may cause the candle to flicker or smoke. Trimming the wick between each burn should help avoid this. If your candle is flickering or there is a build up, extinguish it, allow it to cool, trim the wick and relight.
  • Burn away from draughts and open windows to avoid smoking.
  • Never leave a candle burning unattended.
  • Never burn your candle for more than 4 hours at a time.
  • Burn on a level heatproof surface to avoid damage to surfaces.
  • Never burn your candle on or near anything that may catch fire: for example curtains.
  • Ensure the melt pool is free of any debris such as match heads at all times.
  • Never move a candle which is lit or has a molten wax pool. If you wish to move the candle, extinguish it and allow to cool first.
  • Burn candles at least 10cm apart from each other.
  • Always extinguish the candle and do not relight when the wax level is less than 1cm.
  • Keep out of the reach of children and pets.
